Isetan Hokkaido fair & Sweets from Paris

The annual Hokkaido fair by Isetan is back again, and this time in 2 places, Isetan Orchard in June and Isetan Tampines Mall from 2-11 July. As usual, it offers a variety of produces from Hokkaido, ranging from various confectionary like chocolates and biscuits, to ingredients like rice and konbu, to hot food like grilled seafood, ramen, breads and croquettes. And of course, desserts like manju cakes and rice cakes (mochi), and even peppermint oils and masks!

This time, armed with $50 in hand and 2 credit cards, i wanted to shop with a vengance, but the minute i reached there, i couldnt even get thru the crowd in under 5mins! I was very amazed that the crowd in Tampines Mall could almost match that in Orchard! And so, i only ended up with 2 Japanese breads (the fried kind) and 2 mochi sticks (which i gobbled up without remembering to snap pics!)

Hokkaido Scallop Bread ($4.30)

Hokkaido Potato Curry Bread ($2.80)

The scallop bread was really over-priced, considering that it only consists of 1 piece of medium-sized scallop in the middle, and some scallop cream (similar to those you get in japanese cream pastas) in it. Overall taste? So-so only.

The potato curry bread was nothing to rave about too, and pretty much taste like those curry breads we get in bakeries, just that the curry has a "Japanese curry" taste to it.

A friend just came back from Paris with some goodies for me, and so i thought i will "share" with all you guys:

What is France without Macarons?

I only tried the multi-coloured Macarons, and felt that although it is still evidently sweet, it is slightly less sweeter than most places in Singapore. The meringue crust was still slightly crispy, despite being made about 5 days ago. I couldnt make out all the flavours, but the common ones are chocolate, strawberry, pistachio and hazelnut. Considering it flew all the way from the other hemisphere of the globe, i shall slowly savour the sweets before it goes deflated!
